I awoke to day 16 of the Whole30 feeling as though I could sleep all day. I felt great but the rainstorm could have easily serenaded me back to sleep in seconds if I let it.
I went downstairs and gulped down my tumbler of water and warmed my new favorite breakfast food – Whole30 Chicken Pot Pie Soup. I ate it and a spoonful of Cashew Butter for breakfast. Check out Pinterest for the soup recipe.
As I sat at my desk, I opened The Whole30 Day By Day which I know is a big no, no, but honestly, I can only do so much of this mindful eating stuff. I don’t know why, but it is so awkward for me. How about you?
Melissa Hartwig tells us that nearly all Whole30ers report dreaming about eating non- compliant food. I don’t remember having one but if I did, I hope it was a good dream.
Melissa motivates us by telling us that taking a pass on a sweet treat or a non- compliant food is a huge Non-Scale Victory.
Melissa suggests we reward ourselves for our good work thus far, but not with food. She recommends the author of the habit book Better Than Before, Gretchen Rubin’s approach suggesting you choose a reward that takes you deeper into the habit you’re working to establish. She suggests we take the time to move and/ or cook more but says any “treat” that solidifies your commitment to your new healthy habits will work. My treats are yoga, naps, and Epson salt baths. What are yours?
Around noon I started to get hungry for lunch, but since I woke up a solid two hours before my family they were not ready to eat yet. Even though I’ve been trying not to snack, I chose to snack so I could get into sync with my family’s meal schedule today. The DNX Grass Fed Bison Jamaican Style Bar was a fantastic and tasty snack option with 14 grams of protein!
Tony made a recipe we found on Pinterest for Red Pepper Soup on Cauliflower Rice for lunch. It was good, but not one of my Whole30 favorites.
For dinner, we decided to opt out of a Whole30 recipe and just make a traditional easy Perri family dinner with a few modifications. It was fantastic and great comfort food for the storm.
Around 9:00 PM, I am ready to check the box for Day 16 in the Whole30 Day by Day. As I do, I take a minute to reflect. Just 16 days ago the Whole30 was overwhelming, confusing, and awkward. Now its become an enjoyable habit. Crazy what can all happen in 16 days!
